Description: This is a beginning literacy class using two excellent and fun curriculum: Sing, Spell, Read, and Write; and Explode the Code. Each child will be given a brief assessment to determine the appropriate workbook. Parents will then purchase the Explode the Code workbook. Maximum class size is eight students.

Title: Basic Grammar (AL 102) Category: Arts - Language

Description: Have fun learning how we use words. Parts of speech, sentence structure, dictionary usage, compound words and synonyms/antonyms covered. Games and contests. One student to be crowned Mr. or Ms. Grammar at the end of the year.

Title: A Reader is a Leader (AL 103) Category: Arts - Language

Description: Explode the Code and Beyond the Code are the primary resource textbooks used to help students succeed in all areas of reading and language development. Oral and written communication will be practiced to enhance reading skills. Spelling rules and quizzes will be given each week. Introduction to punctuation, capitalization and grammar will be taught during the second semester. Homework will be assigned four days each week which will take approximately 30 minutes a day.

NOTE TO PARENTS: If you are interested in this class, but unsure of your child's reading level, please contact Mrs. Malpass to schedule a free reading placement test during the month of August. Also, parents are responsible for buying the appropriate textbooks. You may purchase these at Moore's Expression or Tree of Life Bookstore (located at Kempsville Presbyterian Church).
