Description: Come bless the Lord all you servants of the Lord. We will explore creative movement dramatizing scripture, Hebrew dance, corporate worship as well as the Biblical meaning of dance to encourage freedom in personal worship; and learn choreography for ministry presentation as called upon. We will explore creative movement dramatizing scripture, Hebrew dance, corporate worship as well as the Biblical meaning of dance to encourage freedom in personal worship; and learn choreography for ministry presentation as called upon. Title: Piano Private (AP 103) Category: Arts - Performing Description: Private instruction in piano. Lessons provided by the pianist that has served SNCCC for the past 17 years. Each lesson will be 30 minutes long. There will be 25 lessons during the school year, so there will be ample time for "make-up" lessons. Your child will receive lessons in theory and performance. Request parents make a commitment for at least a full semester's instruction (12 lessons). Tuition will be collected monthly. Title: Chorus (AP 104) Category: Arts - Performing Description: This class will focus primarily on singing different vocal and musical arrangements as well as developing vocal tone, pitch and blend in a chorus/choir setting. The students will also study how to read sheet music, music theory and music history. A selection of what is learned throughout the school year will be performed during Shanan's Open House in the spring. This class is appropriate for both new, and seasoned students. Title: Drama (AP 105) Category: Arts - Performing Description: Drama is both a literary and performing art. In recognition of this, students will perform an original play one semester and write a class play the next semester. As part of performing the play students must be able to read and memorize lines and perform on stage. Parents may be asked to help with costumes and set. Most of the written class play will be composed in class as a collaborative effort. (Students are not required to hand write the play though they may be asked to hand write on a few occasions. The teacher will write their ideas. The goal is to produce one page per week and at the end of the semester each student will receive a copy of the play.) All students who participate will be listed as authors of the play. Principal elements might include characters, motivation, setting, plot, and theme. The goal is for children to appreciate and understand the "writing" process. (* Note on Tuition: 15% off second child, or 10% off if taking multiple classes with Mrs. Emerick.) Title: Drama (AP 106) Category: Arts - Performing Description: Drama is both a literary and performing art. In recognition of this, students will perform an original play one semester and write a class play the next semester. As part of performing the play students must be able to read and memorize lines and perform on stage. Students will develop the art of storytelling or acting. They will learn acting techniques and develop a working knowledge of a few theater terms. Parents may be asked to help with costumes and set. Each student will be required to write an original play. Each week we will discuss a component of a good play, such as characters and conflict, motivation, setting, plot, theme, etc. Along the way students learn what constitutes a tragedy, comedy and satyr. The goal is for students to turn in one scene per week (approx one or two typed pages). By the end of the semester each student should have written a simple play or skit while developing a deep appreciation for the art of literary drama. Title: Home Economics (AP 107) Category: Arts - Performing Description: Prepares our children for the simple art of caring for a home. Learn nutrition, sewing, meal preparation, house cleaning, hospitality, and more. Bible lessons included. Class will have to cook and serve during the school year. For girls and boys! |
